WELCOME IN OUR SPACESHIP

EARTH-BUILDING APPLICATIONS BASED ON SPACE TECHNOLOGY

In the basement of BlueCity, separate sanitary water flows are created. Treated water gets a new purpose within the building and raw materials such as compost and fertilizer are extracted. The water is reused as efficiently as possible.

WELCOME IN OUR SPACESHIP

EARTH-BUILDING APPLICATIONS BASED ON SPACE TECHNOLOGY

Nine years ago, a collaboration between SEMiLLA Sanitations and ESA (Mars space mission) enabled a new technology to extract raw materials from human waste for growing vegetables. Using this new space technology, different water streams can be reused and raw materials can be extracted. By collecting different sanitary water streams separately, a circular water stream is created. We separate rain, sink, shower water (grey water), urine (yellow water), and toilet water (black water). This innovation is crucial as the availability of drinking water becomes more uncertain, putting pressure on residential construction, among other things. Collaboration is essential for a future-proof water system.

A STRONG PARTNERSHIP

Decentralized water treatment is yet to be taken for granted. Within the collaboration of SEMiLLA Sanitation, BlueCity, Nijhuis SAUR Industries, Hoogheemraadschap van Schieland en de Krimpenerwaard, Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland, and Waterschap Hollandse Delta, we are investigating the technical, economic, and legal feasibility. Supported by Kansen voor West, STOWA and Alliantie Waterkracht. Special thank for Kracht van New Business Oss for their support.
